 The Types of Information We Collect

We collect information from you, directly, indirectly and through third parties, in accordance with this Privacy Policy any time you contact us, interact with us, or use our website, mobile application, software, products or services. If you do not provide the information we request, we may not be able to provide our products or services to you. The types of information we collect is set out below.

Information You Provide to Us

In order to use our website, mobile application, software, products or services, we require that you provide us with certain information that may personally identify you or your organization (“Personal Information”). Collection of Personal Information can occur, without limitation, in the following manner.

When you register as a user of Survnet Uganda Limited products, services or software. In order to use any Survnet products, services and software, such as RTK services, we first require you to create a user account with us. When you create your user account, we will ask for personal information, like your name, organization, country, email address and phone number. We may also ask you for credit information necessary. All this Personal Information is stored with your account. By providing Personal Information to us you consent to our transfer of this information to our customer databases and other repositories, wherever located.

When you make an inquiry on our online platforms or help desk contact numbers. When you make an inquiry using any of our online platforms or via telephone to any of our agents, representatives or technical personnel, we will request Personal Information from you, including information to verify your identity, in order to address your inquiry or answer your questions. This Personal Information may include your contact details such as your email address, your phone numbers, your location and/or any other relevant information that you provide in connection with your inquiry on our website or any third-party websites. We may also record or monitor any call you make to us for quality control, to enforce our rights, or for training or similar purposes. We will retain all such communications for an indefinite period. By providing Personal Information to us, you consent to our transfer of this information to our customer/partner databases and other repositories, wherever located.

When we communicate with you via email. When you make an inquiry or otherwise communicate with us using email, we will collect Personal Information from you, such as your email address, phone numbers, your location and/or any other relevant information we require, and you provide. We will retain all email communications for an indefinite period. By communicating with us using email, you consent to our transfer of this Personal Information to our customer/partner databases and other repositories, where located.

Information derived from your use of our services, software and devices

We may collect non-personal information from you when you use our services, software and devices, including the following:

Device information. Specific device information (for example, the hardware model, the operating system version number, unique device identifier and other mobile network information) will be sent to us when you install our software and use our service.

Log information. When you use Survnet Uganda Limited services, we automatically collect and store certain information in server logs. This information includes but is not limited to:
   . Launch processes of our services
   . Device information
   . Detailed operations of our services
   . System activities
   . Crash information

Location information. When you use Survnet services and software, we may collect and process information about your actual location. This may include location information provided by internal GPS of mobile phones and GNSS location information provided by any of the devices we provide.

Unique application numbers. Certain services include a unique application number. This number and information about your installation may be sent to us when you install that service on your Device.

Network, Wifi Device and Bluetooth Permissions. Our services will use the network permission of your device to access the internet; Wifi permission (for example, open Wi-Fi and change Wi-Fi status) and Bluetooth permission of your devices to open the Bluetooth and obtain the Bluetooth device information that your device is bound to. 

How We Use the Information We Collect

We use the information, including Personal Information, collected from you for various purposes, including the following:

– To provide you with access to and use our websites, software, products or services
– To notify you of any changes to our software, products and services and where appropriate, to provide you with any required updates (including software updates)
– To provide customer, technical and warranty support 
– To detect, prevent and address technical issues associated with our software, products and services
– To enable us to diagnose problems with any device or software code; to enhance the accuracy of our positioning services; and to permit our devices to communicate with other hardware devices using network connections, Wifi and Bluetooth
– To analyze trends, assess our performance and the performance of our devices, software, products and services
– To monitor the usage of our devices, software, products and services
– To improve our operations and services, better understand our customers’ needs and requirements and to assist in the research and development of new products and services
– To provide you with news, special offers and general information about the products, services, devices and software which we offer that we believe may be of interest to you based upon past purchases or enquiries, unless you have opted not to receive such information
– To comply with applicable law and to respond to legally binding requests from legal and regulatory authorities or other third parties

Cookies, Pixel Tags and Similar Technologies; Cookies Policy

We use cookies, pixel tags, beacons, scripts and similar technologies to adjust and optimize our content to your preferences, to provide you with useful functionalities, to remember your previous purchases and enquiries, to help us make our website, mobile applications, products and services more convenient and efficient, to improve our services, to help us analyze usage trends and patterns, and to tailor online advertisements by us and our partners to you. How Information is Shared

In the ordinary course of business, we will not sell, trade or rent your Personal Information to any third party without your express consent to do so. We do not share your Personal Information with companies, organizations and individuals outside of Survnet Uganda Limited other than to our third-party service providers and partners for the purposes set out under the heading “How We Use the Information We Collect” above. We may share non-personally identifiable information with third parties. For example, we may share information publicly to show trends about the general use of our products, services, devices and software.

Disclosure of Data

Under certain circumstances, we may be required to disclose your Personal Information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).

We may also disclose your Personal Information in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

To comply with a valid legal obligation
– To protect and defend the rights or property of Survnet Uganda Limited
– To prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the use of our products, services, devices and software
– To protect the personal safety of users of our products, services, devices and software or the public

Retention of Personal Information and Usage Data

We will retain your Personal Information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes and enforce our legal agreements and policies. We will also retain your usage data for internal analysis purposes. Usage data is generally retained for a shorter period, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our products, services, devices and software, or we are legally obligated to retain this data for longer periods.

Transfer of Information

Your information, including Personal Information, may be transferred to, and maintained on, computers located outside of your district, state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction. If you are located outside Uganda and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the data, including Personal Information, to Uganda and process it there. Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer. We will take all the steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data, including Personal Information, is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your Personal Information will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

Security of Personal Information

The security of your data is important to us but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Legal Basis for Processing Personal Information under the Data Protection & Privacy Act 2019 (DPPA)

If you are from the Uganda, our legal basis for collecting and using the personal information described in this Privacy Policy depends on the Personal Information we collect and the specific context in which we collect it.

We may process your Personal Information because:

– We need to perform a contract or agreement with you
– You have given us permission to do so
– The processing is in our legitimate interests and it is not overridden by your rights
– To comply with the law

Your Data Protection Rights under the Data Protection & Privacy Act 2019 

The data Protection & privacy Act 2019 Act became effective in Uganda in 25th February 2019. We carry on business in Uganda and strive to fully comply with DPPA 2019 requirements. If you are a resident of the Uganda, you have certain data protection rights. Survnet Uganda Limited will take reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete or limit the use of your Personal Information as prescribed by DPPA. If you wish to be informed about the Personal Information we hold about you and/or if you want your Personal Information to be removed from our systems, please provide an email to info@survnet.ug with your contact information and basic details for us to identify you. We will send you a reply email with Personal Information to be removed from our systems. The removal of such Personal Information may prevent you from accessing or using our products, services, devices and software.

In certain circumstances, you have the following data protection rights:

 – The right to access, update or delete the information we have on you. Whenever made possible, you can access, update or request deletion of your Personal Information directly within your account settings section. If you are unable to perform these actions yourself, please contact us to assist you.

– The right of rectification. You have the right to have your information rectified if that information is inaccurate or incomplete.

– The right to object. You have the right to object to our processing of your Personal Information.

– The right of restriction. You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information.

– The right to data portability. You have the right to be provided with a copy of the information we have on you in a structured, machine-readable and commonly used format.

The right to withdraw consent. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time where Survnet Uganda Limited. relied on your consent to process your personal information. 

Please note that we may ask you to verify your identity before responding to such requests.

You have the right to complain to a Data Protection Authority about our collection and use of your Personal Information. For more information, please contact your local data protection authority in Uganda.

Children’s Privacy

Our products, services, devices and software does not address anyone under the age of 18 (“Children”).

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
